GlobVision had the opportunity to use its expertise in artificial intelligence and data mining, to analyze earthquake scenarios and complement seismic studies.
The team devised architectures and learning methodologies for the creation of AI tools capable of completing geographical information related to seismic activity, even in those areas where no sensors are available. This project allowed the extended team (consisting of GlobVision and its partners) the opportunity to develop methods to clean sensor data, based on detected and non-detected occurrence of earthquake measurements, and draw areas and maps of regions in Canada where Earthquakes of certain magnitudes would not be detected.
The findings had direct applications in the area of optimal sensor distribution related to earthquake detection. Similar techniques are also applied to hydrological and meteorological data, both important in sensor distribution and safety areas related to flood prediction and drought monitoring.
