SECURITY
While working with partners on safety and structural health monitoring issues, the question of preventing catastrophic failures induced by man-made devices or interventions is often raised. This is an area GlobVision takes extremely seriously. Our existing solutions include some features able to help in this respect, but the true power of detecting anomalous events in the operation of facilities such as nuclear power plants or hydro-electricity generating dams still has to be fully exploited.
The same methods used to manage or control complex systems can be applied to this important problem. Traffic of vehicles and merchandises can be analysed for detection of anomalous behaviour. Given the impressive amount of data being collected and the problems inherent with monitoring so much data, the effectiveness of security operations lies in the automatic detection of the most suspect events in a veritable haystack of instances.
For a brief overview of work related to the problems of security, see the following summaries of recent projects: Dams, Earthquake Completeness Map, Fault Diagnosis of Satellite Subsystem, and Roof of the Montreal Olympic Stadium.
